John was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend.
He was born July 22, 1950 in Apopka, Florida to parents John Henry and Fannie Mae Hughley.
After graduation from Phyllis Wheatley High School in Apopka, FL, John attended
Lake Sumter Community College, Leesburg, FL, until he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1970
during the Vietnam War. He was deployed for two tours of duty to Vietnam and Thailand.
After receiving an honorable discharge from the Military John's career consisted of working for
Dix Steel, Kaiser Aluminum Mead Plant, Deaconess Hospital, American Sign and Indicator and lastly,
Hewlett Packard where he medically retired from in 1994.
John Louis was preceded in death by his sister Edith, his daughter Shawanna, his father and mother John Henry and Fannie Mae Hughley. He leaves to cherish his life: His wife of 23 years, Earnestine Hughley Spokane, WA. Five Children: Daughters Kimberly Mastin (Christopher) Tampa, FL, Patricia Sykes and Anita Sykes Spokane, WA, Sons: Wesley Sykes and Lee Sykes (Sheri) Spokane, WA. Four sisters: Ruby Monroe (Arthur) Plymouth, FL, Rosemary Burks and Annette Ingram, Apopka, FL and Evelyn Peebles (James) Hanover, Maryland, 14 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
A Homegoing Celebration of John's life will be held at Foothills Community Church, 11102 N Forker Road,
Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at 11:00 a.m.
The family sincerely appreciates, and thanks the Spokane Veterans Home, 222 E 5th Avenue, Spokane, WA, for the kindness and care John received during the time he spent at their facility. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Spokane Veterans Home.
