He was a mentor and teacher of the Bible as well as a decorated, career Air Force Airman. He worked in hospital administration for over 20 years in the Air Force, after serving 3 years in the Army and being in Viet Nam. As a private citizen, he co-owned a desktop publishing business with his beloved wife Joyce. His passions included martial arts, having won several trophies at a regional level. Devan’s primary love was sharing scripture and mentoring others, through his writings and personal one on one encounters.
He is preceded in death by his wife of over 42 years, Joyce, his sister, Anne, brother, George and his parents, Ruth Southwick/Gene and George D Calvert. Devan is survived by his son, Eli, sisters Sharon and Kandee and brothers, Kim and Kevan/Nancy and a number of nieces and nephews. Many thanks to Ball & Dodd Funeral Home, Sunshine Home Health, Horizon Hospice and the staff of the four hospitals he was in during his final months. A special thanks to Spokane VA Hospital for their many years of care.
Devan is now free of all his struggles and has entered the arms of Jesus…well done, good and faithful son, you are now free of all your wounds. Psalm 23 is the path you have been on and now you’re home at last! You loved us all well.
Memorial for Devan will be Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at The Heights Church, 12703 W. 14th Ave, Airway Heights, Wa. 99001 at 1:00 pm.
