

Donald John Anderson, Sr., 88, of Spring Hill, Fl, formally from Bethpage, NY has passed peacefully on April 6, 2016. He was born in Brooklyn, NY to Charles and Mabel (Rabbitt) Anderson. He was predeceased by his two brothers, Charles (Marcy) of Westbury, NY and John (Jeanne) of Chatham, NY. Donald enlisted in the US Navy at the age of 17 and was present during the Atomic Bomb test at Bikini Atoll. After his discharge from the Navy, he became a baker for Duggan Brother's Bakery in Queens Village, NY and later became a correction office at Nassau County Correctional Facility, East Meadow, NY where he retired from. He had many hobbies that included raising prize winning pigeons that earned him the title of "Mr. Hollander" of Long Island, was an avid baseball card collector and enjoyed watching his beloved N.Y. Mets. He moved to Spring Hill in 1988 with is late wife of 39 years, Barbara (Shaw) Anderson. His wife died just 6 months later. He met and married for the second time the late Faye Caperna, who passed away in 2010. Donald is survived by his daughter Donna Wannen and her husband Kenneth. He is predeceased by his son Donald John Anderson, Jr, who was married to Gail Fitzpatrick. Donald had five grandchildren; Kenneth Wannen, Jr. (Melissa), Thomas Wannen (Mandy), Barbara Wannen Palma (Louis), Tiffany Anderson, and Donald (DJ) Anderson III (Kayla). He was also blessed with 6 great grandchildren; Sean, Erik, James, Alyssa, Lucas Wannen and Gracelynn Anderson. He is loved by all his family and will be in our memories and hearts always. Graveside service will be 2:00 pm, Monday, April 11, 2016 located at Florida Hills Memorial Gardens in Spring Hill.
