Donna Antoinette West, was born on August 16, 1958 in Brooklyn, New York to parents Christine West & Donald York. On Saturday evening, February 28, 2015, God called his angel Donna home to rest in peace. Her parents preceded her in death. At a very early age, Donna was known for her high energy. She was a very focused and determined woman who accomplished many of the goals that she set for herself. Donna’s educational journey began in public school where she pressed forward to graduate from John Adams High School in Queens, New York with honors. Donna wanted to reach higher and earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Nyack University, but she still wasn’t finished yet. In May 2014, at 55 years old, Donna conferred a Master of Science Degree in Social Work from Adelphi University. For Donna, obtaining her Masters’ was just another one of the stepping stones she wanted in her pursuit to establish a rehabilitation center in the Spring Hill area. Donna was a hard working woman! After dedicating over thirty years of service with the New York City Police Department, she retired in August 2014. Donna was known for her “no nonsense” work ethic and wouldn’t mind putting you in your place if she had to. Most important of all, Donna was the rock, the anchor for her family. You could always depend on her to see you through; she was always willing to lend you a helping hand if you needed one. Donna was genuine, and her spirit was made of colors that were true, sweet and gentle. In addition to being a beautiful and attractive woman, Donna had a smile that could light up a room. Donna’s favorite hobby was to SHOP, SHOP and SHOP! Shoes, purses and leather jackets were her favorite obsessions. Donna loved music and she loved to dance, be it Reggae, R&B or Salsa music—Donna loved life, and her grandchildren were her world. Donna was baptized by Pastor Gregory Morilla of Seeing the Impossible Faith Center. Donna is survived by her only child: Tia Deneen Macklin; three grandchildren: Lorenzo, Skye and Makayla; her brother: Ronald West; sister: Beverly West; her life partner of 33 years: Basil Reece; God daughter: Naimah Hines; uncles: Harold Adams, and Irving Hines—the family Patriarch; aunts: Margarita and Henrietta Hines; cousin: Sandra Reaves-Bey—the family Matriarch; nephews: Ronald West Jr., Corey West, Kyle Butler, and Jon Davis; a host of cousins, great nieces and nephews. How blessed we are to have known Donna during our lifetime…...she will always be alive in our hearts.
