Dorothy R. "Smith" Walker, left her home on the wings of Angels just shy of her 91st birthday to join the love of her life, Jack. Born in Cincinnati, OH, March 27, 1925, she lived her young life in Newport, KY., graduating from Newport High School. At the age of 13 she saw the man she wanted to spend her life with and did. After she graduated, they married on Aug. 24, 1943 in Gulfport, MS., while he was in the Army Air Force. Jack was transferred to Kearney, NB where he remained until the end of WW II. While in Nebraska, their first daughter, Cheryl was born. After his discharge and brief return to KY, they relocated to Miami in 1949. In 1951 they moved to a home she loved in Virginia Gardens. In 1953, they welcomed their second daughter, Kathy. In 1958, daughter Barbara arrived completing their family. Another move in 1959 took them to Pompano Beach where Jack started his own plastering business. While her days were full running the office, she never skipped a beat managing to be one of the best Mothers God ever put on this Earth. Her girls were so blessed to have a “stay at home” Mom throughout their years in school and beyond. In 1970 they found a piece of Heaven in Brooksville and began building their dream retirement home. Upon its completion in 1972, they moved for the last time. They lived contentedly and died peacefully in the home they built with their own hands. The third oldest of eight children, she lived her entire life for her family. She always said, “I was born to be a Mother” and that she was, so perfectly, until her last breath. She reveled in the role of grandmother and great-grandmother as well. Nothing in the world meant more to her than family. Everyone who came into her life loved her and their lives were eternally enriched. She was truly one of God’s “special” Angels sent down to make everyone feel her “unconditional” love. Beyond family, life consisted of hunting, fishing and camping with Jack, her girls and sometimes family and friends. Her greatest joys were to have family or friends visit, cook a great meal, play games, rock anyone’s baby to sleep, look at old pictures or simply talk until the sun rose. Though she grew weak and struggled with every breath, her faith in God and His goodness was strong and unwavering. She once said she never felt special as a child so it became her mission to make everyone she ever met to feel special in some way. She wrote countless cards and letters to family, friends and acquaintances that were considered “treasures” by those lucky enough to get one. It was her belief that all of her accomplishments could be summed up in a few words. Her endless acts of kindness would fill volumes. The pure beauty in her face and in her heart, unwavering love, warmth, gentleness and ability to make you feel special beyond words will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. The light she brought into all our lives may dim, but the nights will be a little brighter as Heaven has another lovely star. Until they meet again, she leaves her wonderful and caring daughters, Cheryl Roberts (Ivan) Tallahassee, Kathy Miles (Paul) Brooksville, Barbara Teal (Billy) Clermont, adored grandchildren Tara Ross, Carol Miles, Rob Ross (Jill), Lori Ross-Jessen (Eric), Mike Miles (Ayme), Jackson and Hunter Teal, Karen Roberts (Mikael), Kenneth Roberts, great-grandchildren Christiaan Cason, Sierra Miles, Peyton and Noah Mitcheom, Cayla and Grace Miles, Emily Stark and Braden Ross. Her brother Bob Smith (Joan), her special sister-in-law Liz Smith, special brother-in-law Cliff Wittman (Judy), ten adored nieces, eight adored nephews, and a multitude of great-nieces and great-nephews. Others who will mourn her loss are special friends Ray Hofmeister, Jake & Karen Hazellief, Joe Merritt and many others too numerous to list. Those she loved deeply awaiting her arrival in Heaven are husband Jack, mother Willie Mae Smith, brothers Billy, Oscar Jr. Jimmy and Richard, sisters Barbara and Margie, nephews George and Terry, brother-in-law Gus Rider, Uncle Bob Bennett, Aunt Sadie and dear friends Saing Hofmeister and Terry Foggia. Honoring her request, no service will be held. After cremation, she and Jack will be together on the property where their dreams came true. Donations in her memory may be made to Hernando Pasco Hospice at 12107 Majestic Blvd, Hudson, FL 34667, Big Bend Hospice at 1723 Mahan Center Blvd, Tallahassee, FL 32308, or any not- for- profit charity of your choice.
