Richard you were well remembered at our 51 st Class Reunion in August. 22. Friends and fellow classmates were stunned that you passed.  We all love you, have great memories and look forward to seeing you… in the beautiful home you dwell.  We know you are watching us…. that beautiful red hair and green eyes!

Richard was a beloved member of the HMS family. We will miss his laugh, his jokes, and his sarcastic wit. On a personal note, he was a great influence on the teacher that I became. We were all fortunate to have him as a part of our lives. We all love you, Richard. (Odd how when you post here, it forces you to choose between colleague, friend, or family.  Which to choose? He was all three. )

We grew up adjacent to the Greene's on Bunnell Drive, in Jacksonville, FL,  Joe, Ethel, Richard, Kathy, and Scott. In the '60s neighbors kept an eye out for each other's children.  There were occasions when we acted out and Joe or Ethel informed our parents, and vice versa. We were most likely in the woods playing (known as trespassing today) with Richard playing building forts; playing cowboys and Indians with toy guns and a bow and arrows.  The arrows were whittled from palmetto stems and the bow from a branch and string. We'd cut down young trees to build a corral under our fort.  During a fun game of hide-go-seek if you were captured you may have to spend time in the corral.  We climbed small trees far enough up so our weight would bend the tree as we rode them down to the ground.  Richard was part of all of this. We were all friends and spent time with Richard and his siblings Kathy, and Scott growing up. Richard's family had an in-ground pool, our arrangement was if we cleaned the pool we earned privileges to use it.  I do recall another occasion Richard was upset about something, something petty I'm sure, and he smeared mashed potatoes on a window screen at our house.  Kids being kids, Richard certainly was a fun person to be around and full of surprises.  Being three years younger than Richard my interactions were limited, however, as a group, we enjoyed playing and sharing time together.  I'm sorry for your loss and send my condolences. Richard was a dear childhood friend that I knew all through school. We grew up in the same neighborhood Windy Hill in Jacksonville FL. I have so many memories of Richard, the class clown, who in my wildest dream would have never become a teacher, but he did. He was loved by so many people that he had touched during his lifetime.  We always got together and talked at our class reunions about his grandchildren, whom he adored. He was truly a special person, that loved his children and grandchildren. He will be missed by so many. Attached is a picture from our last reunion.

MY daughter Nicole Gilbo had Mr. Greene as a teacher he kept her in line and I am very grateful for him . He was a Wonderful Caring Teacher. She is now a Nurse thanks to Wonderful  Tea hers like him. 

Richard J. Greene grew up across the street where I lived .  We were the same age only  one month apart.  Spent may a day riding our bikes around our neighbor hood.  Played baseball or foot ball in the street.  Summers spent time swimming in their  in ground swimming pool, only one in the neighborhood.  One summer in 1967 I went on a six week vacation with his family up the east coast into Canada where his mother was born. We traveled in the family  Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser pulling a pop up camper.  Can you say National Lampoon Vacation. What a memorable trip. Richard had once told me that his punishment for skipping so many  days of school during his senior year was to become a school teacher.  Now having to go to school every day for the next 30 years.  Rest In Peace my old friend.
 

What a fantastic teacher. Made a huge impact on not only myself but so many others. Will truly be missed. Good thoughts and vibes sent to family during this difficult time 

Richard & I went to high school together.  He was always smart, witty and honest.  For some reason, we always were put next to each other in history classes .  Maybe, because we loved the subject.
We would always talk about the younger years at our Reunions & kept in contact on FB.
My condolences to his children & grandchildren.  I’m sure he was a great support for you all. 
I’ll never forget that red hair and friendship.

Where to begin?  Rchard J. Greene was my Older Brother.  

He was protective and loving.  

When Younger he was a father figure.  Had to take us ( his brother Scott and I) on his dates to the drive-in (Clint Eastwood or John Wayne) westerns, but we had to sit on top of the car roof.

There were times where he would love to scare us by turning off the electricity and scare the crap out of us.  
He took me Alexander Springs  and Jupiter Springs and would tell me the fish were man-eaters and then flip the canoe.  Tie us to the large Ottoman and roll us around house.  
We spent 2 summers going up to Eastern US and Canada.  We dug Amethyst and we went to the Worlds Fair in Canada in 1967,
Richard loved Geography and Travel.  

I will miss him, his loving soul and sick sense of humor!
