Valerie McLeod King was born in Lake City, Florida on December 10, 1930. She then moved to Columbus, Georgia and then to Albany, Georgia and graduated from High School there. After High School her family moved to Miami, Florida where she met and married Glenn L. King on July 24, 1954. They were married for 62 years. She loved gardening and had all kinds of plants in Miami, orchids, avocados, citrus, cherry trees, and a variety of flowers. Her yard was always beautiful. She loved to fish and go to the beach. The family would go each weekend to sail on their sailboat on Biscayne Bay and hang out at the beach. She loved Florida and the warm weather. She loved being a mother and was president of the PTA for several years. She also worked at Burdines Department Store as a secretary to their buyers, then at Sun Bank in Coral Gables, Florida in charge of the Safety Deposit and then as an accountant for a CPA.
Her father's name was Osborne Alexander McLeod and her mother's name was Mae Akins McLeod. She is survived by her daughter Judy Bird, son in law Jim Bird, granddaughter Jennifer Cox, and husband Kevin Cox, grandson Michael Bird, and 2 great granddaughters Katelyn Cox Epsteen, husband Noah Epsteen, and Brielle Cox, brother Al (Mac) McLeod and sister-in-law Linda McLeod.
She was very faithful to Jesus Christ her Lord and Savior and had a lot of love for the children in the church wanting them to know her Savior. She served at Shenandoah Presbyterian PCA church, helping with the children's choir, always teaching Sunday school and Vacation Bible School to the kids and helping with the youth group and later helped with the College Career Class. Then when she moved to another house to take care of her mother she served at Kendall Presbyterian PCA church also teaching Sunday school and Vacation Bible School. When moving to Spring Hill, Florida she continued to teach kids at church and also helped facilitate a Young Moms Bible Study group. She also used her accounting skills to help with the offering.
The most important thing to Valerie was to bring glory to Jesus by her life. One of her favorite verses was Col. 3:23-24 "Whatever you do; work at it with all your heart as working for the Lord not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving." She also loved Proverbs 3:5-6 "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your paths."
Valerie's desire would be for every one of you to know and trust Jesus as your Savior and Lord so that you too can join her in Heaven one day.
If you haven't asked Jesus into your heart then pray this prayer. Dear Jesus thank you for dying on the cross for me, taking the punishment that I deserve. I give my life to you. I repent of the sins I have committed against you. Help me to now be obedient and live for you. In Jesus Name, Amen. John 14:6 "Jesus said I am the way the truth and the life no one comes to the Father except through me."
Repent is to be sorry for the sin in your life and to turn from it and resolve to reform one's life to live according to God's word the Bible.
Sin is anything your do against God's law. Read Exodus 20 and Matthew 5 in the Bible.
Who made you? God.
Gen. 1:27 "So God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them."
What else did God make? "God made all things. John 1:3 Through him all things were made: without Him nothing was made that has been made."
Why did God make you and all things? For His own glory, 1Cor. 10:31 "So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God."
How can you glorify God? By loving Him and doing what he commands. John 14:15 "If you love me, you will obey what I command."
Why ought you to glorify God? Because He made me and takes care of me. 1Peter 5:7 Cast all your anxiety of Him because He cares for you."
Valerie would never want this to be a celebration of her life but instead a celebration of what Jesus has done for her and through her.
