Alfred J. Weiner passed away on April 22, 2025, in Monsey, New York. Alfred was born on May 5, 1935, in Nyack, New York. His grandparents arrived in Rockland County in 1898 and operated a farm in Spring Valley. He grew up in Spring Valley and the Bronx and graduated from the Bronx High School of Science. He received his B.A. and J.D. degrees from Syracuse University in 1957 and 1959.
After marrying his wife, Renée, they moved to Spring Valley where Alfred opened his law practice. He began his career in 1963 as an Acting Police Judge of the Spring Valley Village Court. He then served as a Town Justice for Ramapo from 1966 to 1971. In 1972, he joined the Rockland County Family Court. He became the Supervising Judge of that court in 1983. In 1984, he joined the Rockland County Surrogate’s Court, where he served until he joined the Supreme Court in early 2005. Post retirement from the bench, he was counsel at Mandel, Katz, & Brosman, LLP.
Alfred was a First Lieutenant, Judge Advocate General Corps in the United States Army.
Community activities were always important to him. Alfred served as President of Rockland County Jewish Family Services, Rockland County Historical Society, and Rockland County Mental Health Association. He was the founder of Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Rockland County and served on its advisory board. He also served on the Boards of Federation and Rockland County Israel Bonds. He was a member of Congregation Shaarey Israel, and a charter member of Monsey Jewish Center.
In his spare time, he enjoyed reading history and biographies, gardening, raising poultry, and exercising. He also loved annual family beach vacations to Long Beach Island and time spent on Martha’s Vineyard with Renée.
Alfred is survived by his daughters, Beth (Bruce) Weiskopf and Dana (Michael) Marlowe, five grandchildren (Alyssa, Melanie, Sam, Rebecca and Noah), and brother, Stanley Weiner.
Funeral services for Honorable Alfred J. Weiner will be held Thursday, April 24, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Gates of Zion Chapel, 670 Saddle River Rd, Airmont, NY 10952. Following the funeral service will be a committal service from 12:00 PM to 12:30 PM at Gates of Zion Cemetery, 670 Saddle River Rd, Airmont, NY 10952.
