Born and raised in the Bronx, Arline’s life was defined by her warmth, intelligence, and deep love for her family. She earned her Master's degree in Psychology and cherished her time working as an elementary school teacher in the Bronx. Though her teaching career was shorter than she had hoped, her passion for education was always something she spoke of with great pride.
In 1966, Arline met the love of her life, Jeffrey Balsam. They were married in 1968 and made their home in the village of New Hempstead, New York, where they raised their two children, Craig and Bethel. Together with the help of family, Arline and Jeffrey shared 57 wonderful years, filled with love, and laughter.
Arline was an avid sports fan, especially passionate about her beloved Yankees and the Giants. She was also a fan of softball, volleyball and bowling, and spent many joyful hours participating in those activities.
A lifelong lover of game shows, Arline had a particular affinity for Jeopardy. She could answer nearly every question and even tried her hand at becoming a contestant on the show. Her quick wit and sharp mind were part of what made her such a vibrant presence in the lives of those who knew her.
Arline’s greatest joy, however, was being surrounded by her family. She found immense happiness in the company of her husband, children, and especially her granddaughters, Molly and Bailey, with whom she shared countless special moments.
Arline is survived by her husband, Jeffrey Balsam; son Craig Balsam (Courtney); daughter Bethel Marcus (David); granddaughters Molly and Bailey. She was predeceased by her parents and other family members who held a special place in her heart.
Arline’s legacy of love, kindness, and devotion to her family will live on forever. She will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.
