

Beatrice Morris Smith, beloved wife of the late Alexander N. Smith, DDS passed away August 26, at the age of 99. She was born in Passaic, NJ on November 25, 1912. The oldest of four children born to Hattie and Moses Morris. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister Melva Kent and her two brothers Lester and Seymour Morris. We celebrate the long life of this warm, generous, strong and intelligent woman. She was the loving mother of Dr. Barry Smith (deceased wife Maryann Smith) of Norwich, Vermont and Patricia Smith Lefkowitz, the wife of Dr. Louis Lefkowitz, of Suffern, NY. She was a doting grandmother to Andrew Lefkowitz, Gilian Smith and Adam Smith. She was an adoring great grandmother to Alexandra and Benjamin Lefkowitz and Abby and Jenny Davis. She was a meaningful aunt and great aunt. Beatrice, a graduate of Passaic High School and New York University went on to teach at Passaic High School. After her marriage to Alexander Smith she moved to Spring Valley where she was a founding member of Temple Beth El as well as a founding member of the board of trustees of the Solomon Schechter Day School. She was also a long time officer and active member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Good Samaritan Hospital, the oldest hospital auxiliary in New York State. She will be remembered as a kind and generous woman who will be in our hearts forever. Arrangements are under the direction of Hellman Memorial Chapels. Donations in her memory may be made to the Foundation of the Good Samaritan Hospital, Suffern, NY or to a charity of your choice. The family will observe shiva from August 28 to August 31 at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Louis Lefkowitz.
