on Thursday, February 21, 2019. He lived a long, amazing life of 91 years. He was born in East Orange, NJ, on December 25, 1927, to Fred and Lillian Mendell. He was raised in Brooklyn, NY. Dave worked as a Quality Control Engineer for various companies, including the Metropolitan Transit Authority, Farberware, and Swingline. After retiring, he obtained his Master’s Degree in Environmental Science from Fairleigh Dickinson University at 76 years of age. He loved volunteering for the local health department, doing water tests in Rockland County. He had a love for theater, classical music, food, brisk walking, and the funny pages. He was well known for his dry sense of humor. Dave was a World War II veteran and was a
member of the local Jewish War Veterans group. He is survived by his sons Neil (Kathy) Mendell
and Ted (Inga) Mendell, and daughter Janice (Tom) Tocco; his grandchildren Matt (Meg), Julie (Josh), Haley, Jaden, and Angela; and his great-grandson, Julian. Dave is also survived by his sister-in-law Blanche; nephews Peter (Jean), Todd (Paula), and niece Donna (Thomas). He is pre-deceased by his parents Fred and Lillian Mendell, his brother Herbert, his wife, Rhoda and daughter, Paula.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, February 25, 2019, at 11 AM, at Hellman Memorial
Chapels, 15 State St, Spring Valley, NY. Interment will follow at Old Montefiore Cemetery, St Albans,
NY. The family will be sitting shiva on Monday, February 25, 2019, at Dave’s home, between the hours of 5 PM and 9 PM.
