I grew up in the little Jewish community of Quito  alongside Edith. I knew where well, as we belong to the same group in age, tastes, and values. I have fond memories of her and am sorry that in later years we did not continue our friendship more closely. I rsememrb with pleasure writing s recommendation that she needed to get a college dredge in which she asked me to describe why she so fully deserved it. I was a university professor, so she must have thought that my voice counted. I vividly remember how readily I could write of her impressive and unusual accomplishments outside of academe. She was a singularly special person.

Condolences on the loss of Edith. She was one of the most amazing people Walter and I knew and we cherished our friendship over many years. She had a gift for making people feel good when she was in a room. Among wonderful memories were Paul and Edith's 50th anniversary celebration in Florida and their trip to London where Edith explored with us bravely going up narrow staircases despite her eye problems. May your happy memories help you in this time of sadness.

I send you wishes of love and condolence.  I worked side by side with Edith, at VCS, for so many years and treasure memories of her to this day.
