Raised in Brooklyn and a graduate of Brooklyn College, Ellen was defined by her love of family. She met her husband, Jack, at Brooklyn College, and they were married for 64 years before he passed. Ellen taught in New York City and in New Mexico before she focused on raising her three children while staying at home. She returned to the workforce later as a school bus driver and dispatcher for East Ramapo School District. Her love of and joy for family gatherings were ever-present, whether they were celebratory occasions, such as NYC Thanksgiving meals and Broadway shows, Met games, and long walks during the Holiday seasons; family beach vacations; or a cross-country car trip to commemorate the Bicentennial. It was also the day-to-day that Ellen made special. Always kind, selfless, determined, and passionate, Ellen made a difference by helping to ensure equality for girls sports during the early Title IX days. She supported her children in everything they did, being ever-present at sporting events, plays, concerts, graduations, and everything in between.
Ellen embraced each of her children’s spouses as if they were her own children. Ellen loved being a grandma to seven grandchildren—being a force in their lives—and as a great-grandma to four great grandchildren. Her devoted and life-long friend, Ele Berk, was a blessing, especially after Jack passed and the onslaught of the pandemic. Smart, talented, loving, and passionate, Ellen has left an indelible imprint on all who knew her.
May her memory be a blessing.
She is survived by her children: Cindy Jebb (Joel), Jan Brottman (Dave), Rob Glazier (Sarah); her grandchildren Ben Jebb (Heather), Alex Jebb, and Olivia Jebb; Lena Marshall (Andrew); Joe Brottman (Jesse); Madeline Glazier and Max Glazier; and her great grandchildren Carter, Charlotte, and Quinn Jebb and Luke Marshall.
