Born December 19, 1945, in the Bronx to Max and Lucille Zimmerman, Lenny was raised in Yonkers, where he developed a lifelong passion for athletics and competition. A naturally gifted and dedicated athlete, he carried that love of sports into every chapter of his life.
Lenny devoted 35 years to the Yonkers public schools as a Physical Education teacher, shaping not only strong athletes but confident young people. He coached basketball, tennis, and swimming, instilling in his students the values of discipline, sportsmanship, and perseverance. Known for his steady presence and high expectations, he became a trusted mentor to generations who remember him for both his encouragement and his integrity.
For 37 summers, Lenny served as Aquatics Director at Blue Rill Day Camp, where he helped thousands of children become capable swimmers and more confident individuals. His commitment to safety and education extended beyond the pool; he taught CPR and lifeguarding through the American Red Cross and led driver education classes, always focused on preparing young people for independence and responsibility. Even in retirement, he remained close to the sports community, officiating high school volleyball games and swimming meets and staying connected to the games he loved.
Above all, Lenny was a devoted and generous husband, father, and grandfather whose greatest pride was his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Lynne; his sister, Phyllis Fields; his daughter, Amy and her husband Doug; his son, Corey and his wife Julianna; and his three cherished grandchildren, Jacob, Campbell, and Cole.
His legacy lives on in the countless students he guided, the athletes he encouraged, the swimmers he watched over, and in the family who will forever carry his lessons, both on and off the field.
