

Norman Friedman, age 94 of New City, New York passed away at his home on Wednesday March 15, 2017. He was predeceased by his loving wife Fay Friedman of 53 years. Norman was born December 5, 1922 in NYC. He was the youngest of his late siblings, Florence and Ruth and the son of the late Sonia Friedman. Norman attended Peter Stuyvesant High School in NYC and he started college at Cooper Union. He met his wife Fay while working at a defense plant during WWII. Norman was a proud partner of Leo’s Hardware on Amsterdam Ave in NYC until his retirement at age 75. In his early years, he was a Scout Master of Troop 704 in Manhattan. He was a member of Nanuet Hebrew Center and also an active member of the Spring Valley JCC as well as Mount Sinai Jewish Center in Washington Heights. He is survived by his son Max (Ellen) Friedman, of Austin, TX, daughter Fern and The late Ben Newdow, of Brooklyn, NY, and daughter Andrea (Ed) Leighton of Niskayuna, NY and grandchildren Kim (Scott) Goyette, Gregg (Nancy) Friedman, Zachary (Stefanie) Leighton, Josh Leighton, Jacob Leighton, and great-grandchildren Kayla, Jaxson, and Grey. Norman is also survived by his brother-in-law Leonard Pickard, many nieces, nephews and cousins, too numerous to mention. He will be dearly missed by his family and many treasured friends including Joseph Werk who visited Norman daily. The family wishes to thank Emelia Osei who cared for Norman in his final months
Funeral Services will be held Sunday March 19, 2017 at 12:45 PM at Hellman Memorial Chapels, 15 State St, Spring Valley, NY. Interment will follow at Jewish Community Center Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Norman’s memory may be made to Nanuet Hebrew Center or to a Charity of One’s Choice. Shiva will be observed at the Friedman residence.
