Phyllis Okon, 94, passed away on February 24, 2021 at the Fellowship Community in Chestnut Ridge, NY. She was born in the Bronx in 1926 and married Saul Okon in 1950. After the births of Ann and Ira, the family moved to Monsey, NY, where many lifelong friendships were forged. Phyllis attended RCC, St. Thomas Aquinas College and Fordham University where she received a Masters of Social Work. She was employed by the Frawley Clinic at Good Samaritan Hospital for many years, as well as maintaining a successful private practice. Shortly after the death of her husband in 1997, she moved to the Fellowship Community where she lived independently up until several years ago when she transitioned to the assisted living facility. Phyllis, together with her husband, was an avid traveler and a lover of life. She was a fierce believer in civil rights, the anti-war movement and the women’s movement. She was founding member of the Reform Temple of Suffern and enjoyed celebrating the holidays with her family.
Phyllis is survived by her daughter, Ann, of Ramsey and son, Ira (Andrea Klein) of Suffern, her niece, Wendy Bloom and nephew, Paul Bloom (Michele) as well and her life-long friend, Geraldine Greenberg.
