Bobby Jan Lane of Springboro, Ohio, died peacefully in his sleep at home on June 28, 2021. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 54 years, Judi Lane, son, Kent Lane, daughter-in-law Melissa Jan Lane, granddaughters Katherine and Madeline, and daughter, Molly Lane and grandson, Austin Lane Brown and grand dog Baxter. He loved and cherished his family and was a loving father figure to many.
Jan was born September 1, 1941, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and moved to Fort Worth, Texas, when he was five years old. He always said he was an “Okie by birth but Texan by the grace of God.” One of his favorite trips was doing a BBQ run to the Texas Hill Country, seeing the bluebonnets and watching TCU football each year.
Jan was a chef at heart who loved cooking, especially smoking a good brisket. He always said if you batter and fry cardboard it would still taste good. His door was always open to everyone and he never met a stranger. He was as generous with his stories as he was with his food.
In his teens, Jan saved his money and bought a 1955 yellow convertible Corvette. While he never owned one again, he realized a dream on his 79th birthday by driving a brand new 2021 Corvette on the race track at the National Corvette Museum.
Jan attended Oklahoma University and Texas Christian University before beginning his career in the medical field as a lab technician and then as a lab manager. Later Jan became a sales representative for Dickies Apparel Company where his outgoing personality made him a huge success as he served for more than twenty years. Jan’s success was acknowledged with the Salesman of the Year award, and he was awarded Optimist of the Year by Optimist International.
Jan was preceded in death by his beloved dogs Missy, Cappy, Sunny, Ruff, Tyge, Bunky and Gunther.
A celebration of Jan’s life will be held on Wednesday, July 7, from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. with remembrances at 7:00 p.m. at Stone Valley Meadows, 4914 Robinson Vail Road, Franklin, OH 45005. Please bring your favorite stories of Jan to share.
