Albert R. McCarthy, Sr.

Albert R. McCarthy Sr., 88, of Springfield, passed away on November 8, 2021 at Sunrise Skilled Nursing and Rehab in Virden. He was born on July 20, 1933 in Ashland to Luther McCarthy and Mamie Mae Mayes. Albert married Nancy Lapicola in Springfield and she survives.

Mr. McCarthy is also survived by his children: Albert R. (Marilyn) McCarthy Jr., of Sweetwater, Leslie (Samantha) McCarthy of Williamsville and Jeffrey McCarthy of Springfield, one step-daughter Marilyn (Jim) Spring of Springfield, one sister Ruth Ann Lard and six grandchildren: Jayson, Joshua, Ryan, Amber, Philip and Aaron. He was preceded in death by one grandson Brandon and one brother Bob McCarthy.

Albert served in the US Army during the Korean War. As a young man he was a farmhand and also worked for the Illinois Department of Agriculture. He was an operating engineer with Local 965 working for Truman L. Flatt & Sons and retiring after thirty nine years of service. Albert enjoyed going fishing.
