

Alice Mae Burns-Palmer, 81of Springfield died at 12:35 p.m. Wednesday, May 19, 2004 at St. John’s Hospital. Alice was born November 9, 1922 in Chandlerville the daughter of George and Eunice Dearing Pschirrer. She married Jack O. Burns and he preceded her in death. She married Jim Palmer on October 29, 1996 in Springfield at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. Alice was the owner and operator of her own beauty salons and was a certified instructor in cosmetology. She was a very proud to serve her country in the US Navy as a Wave in Norfolk, VA at the Naval Air Station during WWII. She served as Past President of the Illinois Hairdressers and Cosmetologists Association, She was a member of the American Legion Orlando C. Crowther Post 16 in Canton, IL for 55 years, former member of the Board of Executives of the State of Illinois Board of Hairdressers & Cosmetologists. She was preceded in death by her first husband: Jack O. Burns and her parents. She is survived by her husband, James W. “Slim Jim” Palmer of Springfield, one son: Charles R. “Chuck” (wife, Candace) Burns of Springfield, one daughter: Jacqueline “Jackie” (husband, Paul) Iacono of Rhode Island, grandchildren: Kathryn and Elizabeth Burns of St. Louis, MO., Charles Iacono of Wakefield, RI, Jennifer (husband, Will) Murphy of Springfield, VT, and Patricia (husband, Sean) Flynn of Norton, Mass., three great grandchildren, one brother: Edward (wife, Manetta) Pschirrer of Charleston, IL and several nieces & nephews. The family will receive friends from 11 – 12:00 Noon on Friday, May 21, 2004 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 524 E. Lawrence Ave., Springfield, IL. Memorial Mass will be held at 12:00 Noon on Friday, May 21, 2004 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception with Father Michael Jenkins celebrant. Burial will follow in Camp Butler National Cemetery where the Interveterans Burial Detail will conduct military honors at the grave.
