

Austin "A.P." Jackson, 96, of Springfield, passed away at 5:45 a.m. on Monday, June 12, 2017 at his residence. A.P. was born on May 16, 1921 in Haverhill, MA, the son of Sheadrick and Philomena Steele Jackson. He married Pearl C. Fanjoy on September 28, 1947; she preceded him in death on December 17, 2015 after 68 years of marriage. A.P. was a 1939 graduate of Haverhill High School and served his country in the United States Navy from 1942-1946. He played football at and graduated from Brown University in 1947. He was an engineer for 25 years and a manager for 10 years at Olin Brass. A.P. was a member of the K of C for 50 years and a long-time member at St. Ambrose Church in Godfrey, where he was an active volunteer. He enjoyed sports, woodworking, gardening, volunteering, public speaking, singing, and traveling, especially to Ireland. He was also preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Charles H. and John D. Jackson. He is survived by his children, Kathleen (husband, Lane) Phillips of McHenry, IL, Dianne (husband, David) Woodward of Cambridge, NY, Jeffrey (wife, Lynn) Jackson of Springfield, and Amy Chevalier of Rutland, VT; 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; sister, Mary E. Mace of Kittery, ME; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation and Funeral Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:45 a.m. on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at Concordia Village, 4101 West Iles Avenue, Springfield. A Funeral Ceremony will be held at 12:00 p.m. with Rev. John Standard officiating. Private family burial will be held at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
