

Betty was born January 28, 1932, in Springfield, the daughter of Frederich A. and Florence Macey Tengler. She married John David Lawler on October 20, 1951, at Blessed Sacrament Parish in Springfield, IL; he preceded her in death on September 3, 2013. She was also preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Albert Tengler, Frederich Tengler, Jr., and Harold Tengler; and sisters, Margaret Sembell and Beverly Groenewold.
Betty graduated from Fietshans High School. She was employed with Sangamo Electric for eight years and then for District 186 until her retirement after 16 years of service. Betty was a member of Blessed Sacrament Parish and the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed cooking, working in her yard, and spending time with her family—especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by her son, J. David (Anne) Lawler II of Auburn; daughter, Karen K. (Harry) Buck of Springfield; grandchildren, Shannon (Dan) Getcell, Morgan (Kalin) Lawler, Aaron (Amanda) Lawler, Zachary (Casey) Buck, and Travis Buck; three great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation and Funeral Mass: Family will receive friends from 9:30 – 10:15 a.m. on Wednesday, March 24, 2021, at Blessed Sacrament Parish, 1725 S. Walnut, Springfield. A Funeral Mass will follow at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Jeff Grant, celebrant. Due to COVID restrictions, there will be limited capacity.
Private interment will be held at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
