Betty was born in Virginia, IL, August 16, 1929, the daughter of James and Lois Irene (Trenter) Simmerman. She married Roy C. Ross, and he preceded her in death November. 30, 1990.
Betty was a bookkeeper for John Deere for many years and was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church. She enjoyed family and friends and especially backyard wiener roast, attending the Illinois State Fair and fish fries. She loved to travel, many of the trips with various senior bus groups. As avid golfer herself, playing in two leagues, she was noted many times in the paper for longest putts. She continued her love for the game, observing through television. She would read often and had a passion for animals, especially dogs.
Surviving is her four children: Debra (Kevin) Voigt, Robert (Marcia Jo) Ross, Ronald Ross, and James (Sara) Ross, all of Springfield. She has eight grandchildren, five great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
Family and friends are invited to a time of visitation at Bisch Funeral Home West 2931 S. Koke Mill Rd. Springfield, on Friday, September. 26, 2025, from 9:30 am until the time of a funeral service at 10:30 am. Pastor Mike Keppler will officiate. Burial will be private in Camp Butler National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, those who wish may direct memorial contributions to the Land of Lincoln Honor Flight or the Animal Protective League.
