Brian Carl McMillen

State Police Officer, Brian McMillen, 24, of Springfield, was killed in the line of duty at 3:30 a.m. Sunday, October 28, 2007. Brian was born on March 15, 1983 in Decatur, the son of Terry and Jane Beyers McMillen. He married Angela Pearce July 22, 2006 in Springfield at St. Aloysius Catholic Church. Brian was a 2001 graduate of Pana High School in Pana, and then received his bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Illinois in Springfield in 2005. He was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church, the Air National Guard and achieved the rank of technical sergeant. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Trooper Lodge 41, Knights of Columbus Council #896 in Pana, and the Security Forces Defenders Association. Brian was a State Police Officer with Illinois State Police since February of 2007 and had graduated at the head of his class. He enjoyed many hobbies including playing the guitar, and basketball, but his love for his wife and his family stood above all. He is survived by his wife, Angela of Springfield; parents, Terry and Jane of Pana; ten siblings: Andrew (wife, Kelly) of Mt. Vernon, Adam (wife, Jeanine) of Chicago, Jeremy (wife, Nicole) of Wentzville, MO, Julianne (husband, Christopher) Green of Edwardsville, Kelly McMillen of Collinsville, Jennifer McMillen of Decatur, Eric of Carterville, and Jared, Wade, and Nicholas all of Pana; his nephew, Payton, and his niece, Dorthy. The family welcomes friends to visit from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday, October 30, 2007 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. The Illinois State Police will post an honor guard throughout the visitation. A multi-agency police walk through will be held at 6 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, October 31, 2007 at St. Patrick’s Church, 303 S. Locust, Pana with Father Don Roberts celebrant. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Pana with full honors provided by the Air National Guard and the Illinois State Police.
