Bruno C Bonczyk, 90, of Springfield, passed away early on Saturday, November 17, 2012, at Memorial Medical Center. He was born on April 26, 1922 in Chicago, the son of Stanley and Rose (Szczesny) Bonczyk. Bruno married Irene Ilkanic in 1951, they have celebrated 61 years of marriage together. Bruno proudly served our country during WWII and was able to participate in the Honor Flight to Washington D.C. with his fellow WWII veterans. He and his wife lived in East Alton, IL for 48 years before relocating to Springfield. Bruno retired from Alton Board Box Company as a designer, where he obtained 3 U.S. Patents in his career. He is survived by his wife Irene, three children; Bruce (Margi) Bonczyk of Springfield, Barbara (Bob) Whitworth of Centennial CO, and Beverly (David) Stock of Burr Ridge IL, as well as 3 grandchildren; Claire Whitworth, and Bradley and Tyler Stock. Preceding Bruno in death are his parents, and his brother Stanley Bonczyk Jr. defending our freedom in WWII. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 20, 2012 from 4-7 pm with a prayer service at 4 pm, at Bisch Funeral Home West, 2931 S Koke Mill Rd. Springfield, IL 62711. Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at 10:30 am at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 245 N Amos, Springfield, IL 62702, with Rev. Robert Jallas celebrating the mass. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery, where honors will be provided by the Sangamon County Interveterans Burial Detail. In lieu of flowers memorials in his name may be made to the Land of Lincoln Honor Flight, or to St. Jude’s Childrens Hospital.
