Charles E. Sylvester, 88, of Springfield, died at 8:56 a.m. on Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at his home. Charles was born on March 22, 1929 in Somerville, MA, the son of Amelia Sylvester and Bernard Langenfeld. He married Janet Sylvester on May 31, 1952 in Boston, MA; she preceded him in death. Charles proudly served our country in the U.S. Army during the Korean and Vietnam wars. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Elks in Yuma, AZ. He loved playing golf and bowling, and was an avid writer. Charles wrote and published his own book, "With Truth As Our Sword". He was also preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his sons, David B. and Dennis J. Sylvester, both of Arizona; daughters, Claudia (Mike) Ferguson of Cathedral City, CA, and Linda (Jeff) Baker of Springfield; eleven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral Ceremony: 10:00 a.m. on Monday, November 20, 2017 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th Street, Springfield with Celebrant Judy Woerner officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
