Charles J. "CJ" Muir

CJ was born on June 12, 1956, in Springfield, IL, the son of Malcom and Martha (Donelan) Muir.

CJ graduated from Springfield High School with the Class of 1974. He continued his education at Springfield Junior College, Sangamon State University, and Purdue University. CJ worked as a sheet metal worker for more than 30 years and was a proud member of SMART Local 218. After retiring, he continued serving his community by working at Ball and Glenwood Elementary School.

CJ was a devoted husband who was hardworking, stubborn, fun-loving, silly, and always happy. Known to many as “Mr. Fix It,” he spent his entire life in the community he loved. He enjoyed “CJ’s Junkyard Wars”, spending time outdoors, being a history buff, and was always an early bird. He had a passion for learning and took great pride in caring for his chickens, his family, and his wife.

CJ was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Joanne Hubbard; and grandson, Brendon Meyers.

He is survived by his wife & companion for 28 years, Bonnie; daughter, Lindsey (Bradley) Grumadas; sons, Justin (Billie Beavers) Murphy and Mathew (Meghan Hatchison) Murphy; twelve grandchildren, Brayden, Benjamin, Falyn, Rylee, Mathew Jr., Caitlyn, Eric, Austin, Dakota, Alyssa, Angelina, and Jackson; siblings, Stephen, William (Donna), Mary, and James Muir; and several nieces and nephews.

Cremation will be provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center.

A Memorial Gathering will take place from 5:00-7:00 pm on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at Butler Funeral Home-Springfield, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield, IL 62703.
