He was born on August 14, 1927 in Litchfield, IL, the son of the late William H. and Bertha (Kinsler) Bailey. He married Betty J. Abner on May 14, 1950 and she survives.
Daniel retired from the United States Air Force in 1975 after 30 years of service. He served in World War II, the Korean Conflict, and the Vietnam War. He later worked as an assistant manager for Kmart. He was a member of the DAV Club Chapter 15 and the American Legion. Daniel was a proud person who put his family over everything.
Besides his wife of 72 years, Betty, he is survived by a daughter Karen K. (husband Larry) Hayes of Springfield; 2 sons, Daniel C. (wife Barbara) Bailey, Jr. of Chatham, IL and Carl M. (wife Cheyenne) Bailey of Lincoln, IL; 5 Grandchildren; 6 Great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by 4 sisters, Gladys, Laura, Betty, and Dorothy; and 3 brothers, Wade, Homer, and Paul.
Arrangements are under the direction of Bisch and Son Funeral Home, Springfield. Private family graveside services will be held at Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield.
