

David was born March 19, 1942 in Springfield, the son of Julian Snape and Doris Swann Boardman. He married Elaine Curry on September 16, 1972 in Springfield.
David graduated from Springfield High School, class of 1960. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy Reserves from 1957 1963 and was a Public Affairs Officer from 1963-1967. He was the manager of Hardees on West Jefferson for more than 20 years. He retired from the Illinois State Police Academy in 2016. In his spare time, David enjoyed watching Illini Basketball, the St. Louis Cardinals, and playing golf. He especially loved spending time with his dog, Lucy, his grandson, Collin, and going on breakfast adventures with his close friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, William Boardman; and one daughter, Elizabeth Boardman Sweeny.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine of Springfield; sons, Brent (Olivia) Boardman of Springfield and David (Lisa) Boardman of Morton; daughters, Maury Boardman of Canada, Megan Boardman-Downey of Springfield, and Sarah (Tyler) Gibson of San Antonio, TX; grandchildren, Ashley Lynch, Sydney, Madison, Jake, and Shelby Paquette, Dylan Klinkler, and Collin Downey; three great-grandchildren; niece, Erica Derochea; and nephew, Julian Boardman.
Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center.
Celebration of Life and Memorial Gathering: 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 1, 2018 at Boardman-Smith Funeral Home, 800 South Grand Ave. West, Springfield with Rev. Mary Keldermans officiating. A memorial gathering will be held following the celebration of life until 7:30 p.m.
Burial will be held at a later date at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
