David C. Dalbey, 81, of Springfield, went peacefully to be with the Lord on September 27, 2022. He was born on December 14, 1940, in Springfield to James and Betty Lou Dalbey (Coy). David married Dixie Lee Mohr on October 14, 1967, in Arbela, Missouri, and she survives.
Mr. Dalbey is also survived by three sons: Mark (Janelle) Dalbey of Peoria, IL., John (Jennifer) Dalbey of Austin, TX., and Paul (Kelli) Dalbey of Savoy, IL., eight grandchildren: Lily, Ben, Lauren, Austin, Zachary, Jackson, Olivia and Charlie Dalbey and one sister Susan (James) Cox. He was preceded in death by his parents and two infant siblings (Judith and John).
David graduated from Lanphier High School in 1958 and briefly attended Bradley University before serving in the U.S. Air Force from 1961 to 1965. After leaving the Air Force, David worked for the U.S. Postal Service for nearly forty years. In his retirement, David found great joy in serving as a volunteer at Memorial Medical Center and meeting regularly with his retired postal service colleagues for breakfasts. He was an avid fan of the Indianapolis 500, missing only one race between 1954 to 2019. He was also a wonderful piano player and cherished his grand piano. David was a member of Central Baptist Church for over fifty years until his passing.
A funeral service will be held at 11:30am on Saturday October 1, 2022, at Bisch and Son Funeral Home, 505 East Allen Street. The family will receive friends and family from 9:30am until the time of service Saturday at Bisch and Son. A burial will take place at a later date at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
