David F. Drewes

David F. Drewes, 59, of Springfield, died at 8:41 a.m. on Tuesday, March 21, 2006 at his home. David was born June 27, 1946 in Olney, IL the son of Alfred and Monica Hahn Drewes. He married Winona L. “Noni” Wilkens on July 18, 1969 in Olney, IL. He was a U.S. Army Veteran serving during the Vietnam War where he received the National Defense Service Medal, Expert – Rifle Medal and Good Conduct Medal. He received a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Technology from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. He was a tariff administrator with the Financial Analysis Division of the Illinois Commerce Commission until his retirement in 2001. David was a member of the Church of the Little Flower. He enjoyed fishing, boating, hunting, bowling, traveling and working in his yard. He was preceded in death by his sister: Mary Stark and nephew: Jeff Drewes. He is survived by his wife: Winona L. “Noni” Drewes of Springfield; two sons: Brian David (wife, Kim) Drewes and Philip Kevin (companion, Mallory McKinney) Drewes both of Springfield; three grandchildren: Noah, Matthew and Delaney Drewes; parents: Alfred and Monica Drewes of Olney; one sister: Barb (husband, Rich) O’Brien of Arnold, MO; four brothers: Dan (wife, Barb) Drewes of Chatham, Jerry (wife, Linda) Drewes of Rochester, Mike (wife, Connie) Drewes of Champaign and Bill (wife, Kathy) Drewes of Oblong; seven nieces; thirteen nephews and six great nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 24, 2006 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 5:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 25, 2006 at Church of the Little Flower, 800 Stevenson Dr., Springfield with Reverend Steven Janoski celebrant. Burial will follow at Chatham Cemetery where the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County will conduct military honors.
