David Steffen, 65, of Chatham, died Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at St. John�s Hospital. He was born on December 21, 1947 to the late Elmer G. and Alma C. Wallner Steffen. David was an active member of St. John�s Lutheran Church, Chatham. For many years he was the superintendant for Sunday School. David graduated from the U of I, Champaign, with an engineering physics degree, then worked as an engineer at DICKEY-john for over 40 years. Mr. Steffen is survived by his brother, Ronald (Patricia) Steffen of Springfield; niece Deborah (Tony) Fusco of Silver Springs, MD; nephew, Michael (Catherine) Steffen of Gilroy, CA and several cousins. Visitation -The family will greet friends from 4-7pm, Sunday, July 7 at Staab Polk Memorial Home, Chatham. He will lie in state from 9-10 before funeral services which will be held at 10am, Monday, July 8, at St. John�s Lutheran Church, 1220 North Main Street, Chatham with Reverend Clarence Rogers officiating. Burial will follow at Chatham Memorial Cemetery.
