Dennis M. Johnson

Dennis was born on April 3, 1952, in Springfield, the son of Roy Edward and Anna “Pernie” Marie Viola Johnson. He married Patricia “Patty” Louise Vaughn Soeller on February 19, 2021.

Dennis graduated from Williamsville High School in 1970 and earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Southern Illinois University – Carbondale. He worked for the Illinois Department of Transportation as a Hydraulic Engineer from 1979 until his retirement in 2015. Dennis was a volunteer firefighter and EMT for forty years. He was a member of St. John Vianney Church and was a Lector and Eucharistic Minister. Dennis was also a Fourth Degree Knight with Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed reading and woodworking.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, David, Maryann, and Lisa Johnson; and great-niece, Michelle Phillips.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia “Patty;” son, Jason (Brooke) Vaughn; grandchildren, Alexander, Andrew, and Zoe Vaughn; brothers, Richard (Ramona) Johnson and Andrew Johnson; sister-in-law, Victoria Robertson; nieces, Katherine “Beth” Robertson, Alexandria “Alex” (Ben) Blessing, and Nicole (Chris) Phillips; and cousins, Thomas “Tom” Latonis and Jim Williamson.

Cremation will be provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center.

Memorial Gathering and Mass: Family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, August 21, 2021, at St. John Vianney Church, 902 St. John Drive, Sherman, IL 62684. Mass to follow at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Fredrick Chima Mbiere officiating.

Private burial will be held at Calvary Cemetery.
