

Donald F. Cullen, 76, of Springfield, died at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 26, 2005 at St. John’s Hospital. Donald was born on February 16, 1929 in Springfield, the son of Thomas Matthew and Zorah Belle French Cullen. He married Jacqueline D. Cook in 1950 in Springfield. He was a WWII U.S. Navy Veteran serving in Guam. He was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church, American Legion Post 32 and 40/8. He retired as Captain of the Springfield Fire Department after thirty years of service. There had been a “Cullen” serving proudly as a firefighter continuously for 104 years. He also was co-owner of ABC Glass Shop. He was a very honest and hard-working man who enjoyed his family. He was preceded in death by his parents: Thomas Matthew and Zorah Belle Cullen; and siblings: Thomas Cullen, Elaine Cullen, Loren Cullen and Dona Marie Figone. He is survived by his wife: Jacqueline D. Cullen of Springfield; Children: Kathie J. Cullen of California, Cynthia (husband, Boon) Cullen Charoenying of Crystal Lake, IL, Donald A. (wife, Chris) Cullen of Spaulding and Sandra (husband, Mike) Dozier of Rochester; grandchildren: Adrienne and Jula Charoenying of Crystal Lake, Kimberly (husband, Shaun) Tyson of Riverton, Jennifer Cullen of Spaulding and Samantha Cullen of Spaulding and Derek Cullen of Rochester; one great grandson: Cullen P. Tyson of Riverton; one brother: Eldon Cullen of Palm Springs, CA and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 29, 2005 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 5:00 p.m. The Springfield Fire Department Local #37 will post an honor guard during the visitation. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 30, 2005 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 2119 N. 20th St., Springfield with Rev. Mark Schulte, celebrant. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery where the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County will conduct military honors.
