He was born in Springfield on August 6, 1952, the son of Donald E. and Virginia M. (Bee) Hoelzel.
Donald graduated from Springfield Southeast High School with the class of 1970. He was employed as a union sheet metal worker for 34 years. In his spare time, Donald enjoyed singing, playing his guitar, baseball, boating, NASCAR, and using his CB radio. He was also a lifetime member of the Sangamo Surf Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Mark Hoelzel.
Donald is survived by his son, Jeremy K. Hoelzel of Springfield; grandchildren, Shawndrea (Frances) Oglesby and Cheyenne (Christopher) Johns; sister, Lynn (Warren) Evans; two great-grandchildren, Kaydence and Mason; several nieces and nephews; and Donnie’s beloved dog, Zoe.
Visitation and Funeral Ceremony: Family will receive friends at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at Butler Funeral Home- Springfield, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield, until the time of the Ceremony at 3:00 p.m. with Celebrant Judy Woerner.
Cremation will be provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center following services.
