

Donald T. Jeffers, 79, of Springfield, died at 5:25 a.m. on Thursday, May 22, 2008 at the Regency Nursing Home. Donald was born on October 20, 1928 in Springfield, the son of Dean and Macy Harris Jeffers. He married Lida L. Smith on November 15, 1952 at Sacred Heart Church in Springfield. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Shirley Pippin. He was a veteran of the US Army and served in the Korean War. Donald worked with Thermo-King Refrigeration transportation in the Midwest for many years. He then worked at the State of Illinois Department of Transportation as sign shop foreman and retired after 23 years of service. Donald is survived by his wife, Lida L.; his children, Terry L. (wife, Brenda) Jeffers of Virginia, IL, Diane (husband, Paul) Schmidt of Vienna, VA, Steve (wife, Karen) Jeffers of Springfield, Mike (wife, Tammy) Jeffers of Decatur, IL, Katy Jeffers and Pete (wife, Beth) Jeffers both of Springfield; nine grandchildren, Chad, Chris, Nicole, Sara, Josh, Rachel, Katy Lida, Andrew, and Mitchell; three sisters, Joanne Wade of Grapevine, TX, Patricia (husband, Alan) Bell of Sherman, TX, and Faye (husband, Raymond) Likes of Stonington, IL; as well as several nieces and nephews. Cremation was accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center. Family will receive friends for a memorial gathering from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 27, 2008 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St, Springfield. A memorial ceremony will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 28, 2008 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home with Rev. Robert J. Jallas officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery with military honors provided by the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County.
