Donald Kren

Donald Kren, 75, of Springfield, passed away on Friday, May 13, 2011 at St. John's Hospice. Donald was born December 4, 1935 in Springfield, the son of Charles Matthew and Helen Schmidt Kren. He married Ann Marie McGuire on March 2, 1957 in Springfield. Donald graduated from Springfield High School and received his associate's degree as a real estate broker from LLCC. He proudly served our country during the Korean War in the U.S. Navy and later in the Navy Reserves. He retired as a Captain on the Springfield Fire Dept and was a career member of the IUOE Local 965. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife and brother, Charles Joseph Kren. He is survived by his children, Mary Elizabeth (Frank) Livingston, Mitchell Lee (companion, Salayna Bartel) Kren, Karel Louise (William A.) Howard, Donald James (Lara) Kren and John Joseph Kren; grandchildren, Harmony Breazeale, Andrew, Frank IV, and Iris Livingston, Jill (Jake) Herr, Scott and Amy Kren, Melissa (Jeremiah) Alwerdt, Shandi Howard, Noah, Elliott, Chloe, and Anamarie Kren, Robert Patrick Kren, Tyler, Brooke, Brianna and Taylor Bartel; six great-grandchildren; sister, Helen (David) Langston; longtime friend, Kathy Jones; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m. Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at Sacred Heart Church, 730 S. 12th St., Springfield with Rev. Stephen Thompson, celebrant.
