

Dorothy was born in Oblong, IL March 22, 1932, the daughter of Frank and Mary Catherine Antey. Dorothy married Ed Ryan of Waverly July 19, 1975. He preceded her in death on October 23, 2010. She was also preceded in death by her parents; and 4 sisters, Bernadine Chastain, Betty Short, Laverne Wright, Mildred Nottingham; and two brothers, Albert Antey and George Antey.
Surviving is one brother, Don (Sandy) Antey; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces; great-great-nephews, and one great-great-great nephew.
She graduated from Illinois State Uiversity in 1950. Dorothy taught home economics at New Berlin High School until she retired. She was a sister and a mother to two generations of men and women students. She was a 52 year member of the Beta Lambda Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma. As president of the Beta Sigma Phi City Council, she fostered the financial backing for Hope School on a national basis by Beta Sigma Phi. She was a member of St. Agnes Parish, and taught Confraternity of Christian Doctrine Classes at New Berlin and Springfield. For many years, she enjoyed being a judge at the Illinois State Fair Bake-Off Contest. If Dorothy touched your life, she touched your heart.
Arrangements are under the direction of Bisch Funeral Home West, 2931 S. Koke Mill Road in Springfield, where a visitation will be from 5 to 7 pm Friday, Oct. 26, 2012. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012 at 10 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 306 E. Birch St. in New Berlin with Fr. Kevin Laughery, celebrant.
