

She was born in Wilmington, DE, on August 22, 1914, the daughter of William L. and Benita I. Meenan. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Josephine M. Welch.
Dorothy graduated from Wilmington High School in 1932 and from Business School. She retired in 1979 from Delaware Power & Light after 31 years of service. She was an active member, Elder and Deacon of First & Central Presbyterian Church for over 50 years. She devoted much of her life in service to the International Order of Job’s Daughters, serving as Bethel Guardian and Grand Guardian of the State of Delaware. In Retirement she was also active on the Board of Directors of the Sellers Senior Center and for many years was a leader of their trips. She was a member of Ruth Chapter of Eastern Star and was active in the Delaware Republican Party, once serving as a delegate for Delaware State Convention. Dorothy loved to play Bridge and do crewel embroidery. She moved to Springfield in 1998 and became active in all aspects of life at the Illinois Presbyterian Home. As a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, She helped serve Home Communion and was active in Mary Ruth Circle. She was a member of Chapter EO, P.E.O.
Dorothy is survived by daughter, Cheryl (husband, Neville) White of Springfield; two grandsons, Christopher (wife, Lilly) of Clovis, CA and Douglas (wife, Susie) of Pittsburgh, PA; and six great grandchildren, Erica, Jessica, and C.J. of Clovis and Abe, Izzy, and Asher of Pittsburgh.
A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, November 24th at 1:30 PM at Westminster Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Illinois Presbyterian Home or Westminster Presbyterian Church. An inurnment service will be held in Wilmington, DE at a later date.
