

Dr. Charles “Chick” Gallina, 61, of Springfield, died at 5:04 p.m., Thursday, August 4, 2005 at St. John’s Hospital. Chick was born October 10, 1943 in New Brunswick, NJ the son of Mathew and Mary Piazza Gallina. Mr. Gallina received his Bachelor’s of Science from Fordham University, New York, NY and his PhD in Nuclear Health Physics from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ. He was employed as a scientist for the Illinois Department of Nuclear Safety for 10 years. He was President of STOPP, a right to life organization, and a member of American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) and Christ the King Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by mother. He is survived by his wife: Ellen Gallina of Springfield; son: Matthew Gallina of Springfield; two daughters: Mary Kate Gallina of Los Angeles, CA, Maria Gallina of Atlanta, GA; two grandchildren: Luciano and Adrianna Gallina; father: Matthew Gallina of Chadwick Beach, NJ; one sister: Stella (husband, Stanton) Smith of Englishtown, NJ and two nephews: Kevin Smith of Englishtown, NJ and Kenneth Smith of Aspen, CO. Family will receive friends from 4-6:00 p.m. Sunday, August 7, 2005 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 8, 2005 at Christ the King Catholic, 1930 Barberry, Springfield with Rev. Msgr. David S. Lantz. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 2680, North Canton, OH 44720.
