Dr. Pat Von Behren

Dr. Pat Von Behren, 69, of Springfield, died at 8:55 p.m. on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Lincoln. Pat was born September 19, 1944 in Chicago, the daughter of Major D. and Dorothy D. Upton Pierce. Pat was a 1962 graduate of Bremen High School and earned her Bachelor's Degree from the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana in 1966. She then earned her MD degree from the University of Illinois in Chicago. She went on to the University of Iowa, where she completed her residency and fellowship in Pediatric Cardiology. She began her career as a pediatric cardiologist at St John's Hospital serving for 30 years until her retirement in 2006. Pat enjoyed many forms of needlework including cross-stitch, needle point, and quilting. She loved donating the quilts she made to many different people. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Roger Pierce. She is survived by her two daughters, Jennifer A. (husband, Steve) Von Behren-Carey and Rebecca L. Von Behren both of Iowa City, IA; two grandchildren, Nora Rose Carey and Atticus H. Von Behren; brother, Michael E. (wife, Carol) Pierce of Columbia, SC; one niece, one nephew and several cousins. Cremation was accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies. Memorial Gathering: Family will receive friends from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 23, 2014 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Memorial Ceremony: 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 24, 2014 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home with Celebrant Judy Woerner officiating.
