

E. Fred Davis, 93, of Springfield, died on Tuesday, September 18, 2007. He was born on March 7, 1914 in Olney, the son of Ira F. and Julia Clapp Davis. He married Pearl Baliva-Vespa. Fred retired from Pillsbury Mill in 1975. He was the sole owner and operator of Springfield Termite Control until 1984. He proudly sponsored the Springfield Termite Control Khoury League baseball team for several years. In 1961, the team won 1st place in Springfield, 1st place in the State of IL and 3rd place in the National Finals in St. Louis, MO. He was an active lifetime member of Elks Lodge 158 and Eagles Aerie 437, as well as an avid bowler and golfer, playing in the Elks, Eagles and Pillsbury Mill leagues. Fred is survived by his wife, Pearl (Baliva-Vespa) Davis of Petersburg; one son, Fred E. (Anette) Davis of Virginia; two stepchildren: Connie (Glen) Janssen of Valparaiso, IN and Ralph James (Regina) Vespa of Athens; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. The family welcomes friends to visit from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. on Friday, September 21, 2007 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service officiated by Rev. Robert Franzen. Cremation will be accorded following visitation by Butler Cremation Tribute Center. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of donor’s choice.
