
He was born on September 28, 1933, in Canton, MO, the son of Edgar Earl and Mildred F. (Risk) Fishback. He married Esther A. Lillard on October 24, 1953, in Williamstown, MO.
Earl was born and raised in Canton, MO, and most recently lived in Springfield, IL, for 41 years. He graduated from high school in Williamstown, MO as Salutatorian with the class of 1951. Earl proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. After serving his country Earl went on to work at Illinois Bell (aka AT&T) for 38 years as an installer. Earl was also a member of IBEW Local 193. He was a handy man and could be described as a “Mr. Fix It”. He never met a stranger and loved to tell his jokes and stories. His favorite activities included golfing, hunting, fishing, and camping. Additionally, he loved travelling to all 50 states, and Europe. His favorite musician was Kenny Rogers.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Kenneth and Thomas Fishback.
Earl is survived by his wife; son, Steven (Rebecca) Fishback of Phoenix, AZ; daughters, Barbara (Kim) Piatt of Dawson, Rhonda (Chris) Reinert of Springfield, IL, Cheryl Adams of Buffalo, IL, and Michele (Billy) Bermel of Springfield; sisters, Cherilyn (Jerry) Brookhart and a sister-in-law Elaine Fishback; and eleven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren with one on the way.
Graveside Ceremony will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, November 20, 2023, at Camp Butler National Cemetery with Christen Piatt officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Sangamon County Interveterans Burial Detail and the United States Army Funeral Honors.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
