

Edward Bernie Bernard Fulton, Jr, of Chatham, formerly of New Berlin, passed away peacefully, Thursday, May 31, 2018, at his home, with his family by his side. He was born July 28, 1932, in Jacksonville, to Edward Bernard and Verdie Mae Calhoun Fulton, Sr. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Roberta Wallner and Joyce Brown; great granddaughter, Sophia Tilbury; and nephew Darin Gleason. Bernard was a 1951 graduate of New Berlin High School and a 1960 graduate of DeVry Electrical School. He married Evelyn Alice Tinsley on April 23, 1955. Bernie had a great work ethic and had various jobs over the years. He worked at General Telephone and at the John Deere Dealership in Repair and Maintenance. From 1954 to 1960 he farmed and did electrical work. Bernie owned Fulton Electric Service from 1960 until 1984. He served as the New Berlin Village Fire Department from 1960-1972 and was the Fire Chief. In 1963-1964, Bernie was a company electrician for Armco Truss Pipe Company. After selling his business, Mr. Fulton worked for the State of Illinois, Department of Revenue and Department of Agriculture. He also repaired sewing machines for Little Pams Sew Perfect and drove cars for various dealers in Springfield. Bernie was an active member of the Sangamon Valley RC Flyers. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 63 years, Evelyn of Chatham; daughters Jan (Greg) Harrison of Auburn, Pam (Brian) Sabourin of Midland, MI; grandchildren, Heather Shane Woods, Heidi (David) Tilbury, Blair (Ryan) Patterson, Megan Sabourin; great grandchildren, Seth Bates, Zachary Bates, Taylor Patterson, Colton Patterson, Maya Tilbury, Tyson Woods, Kensley Woods; brother, Robert (Evelyn) Fulton; sisters, Beverly Pat (Robert) Spicer of Springfield, Donna Gleason of New Berlin, and Carolyn (William) Kinner of Pleasant Plains; brothers-in-law Kenneth Brown of Salisbury and Robert Ruble of Springfield; sister-in-law Carole Tinsley of Greenville, SC; several nieces, nephews and cousins. His family will greet friends from 4pm until 7pm, Tuesday, June 5 at Staab Polk Memorial Home, 8855 State Route 4, Chatham, IL, 62629. His funeral Ceremony will be held at 10am Wednesday, June 6, at Staab Polk Memorial Home with Rick Wenneborg officiating. Burial will follow at Chatham Community Cemetery.
