Edward B. Smith, Jr.

Edward was born on February 2, 1955, in Springfield, IL, the son of Edward, Sr. and Mariane (Catalano) Smith.

Edward graduated from Springfield High School and went on to have a distinguished career with Central Management Services of the State of Illinois, where he dedicated over 30 years of service before retiring. A proud member of Tyrian Lodge #333 in Rochester, IL, Edward had a deep passion for Harley-Davidson motorcycles, his Corvette, and his family. He loved to travel, soak up the sun at the beach, and explore the depths of the ocean through scuba diving.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward, Sr. and Mariane; first wife, Nancy Smith; grandson, Edward Smith IV; and son-in-law, Shane Sonneborn.

Edward is survived by his son, Edward (Ashly) Smith III of Palmer, IL; daughters, Corrine (Brad) Settles of Springfield, IL, and Brandi (David) Workman of Chatham, IL; eight grandchildren, Caittlynn (Ryan) Busch, Haley (Jeremy) Cundiff, Anna (Nathanael) McGuire, Griffin Smith, Brooke Workman, Greydon Smith, Gracie Workman, and Gabrielle Smith; one great-grandchild, Jasper McGuire; grand pups, Ava & Pumpkin Smith, Spud & Tater-tot Settles, and Magnolia “Maggie” Workman; and brothers, Frank (Jayme) Smith of Colorado and Kenneth Smith of Thailand.

Cremation was provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center.

Memorial Gathering & Ceremony: The family will receive friends at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, September 5, 2025, at Butler Funeral Home-Springfield, 900 S. 6th Street, Springfield, IL 62703, until the time of the Ceremony at 10:00 a.m., with celebrant Judy Woerner officiating.

Burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery, 2001 N. 1st St., Springfield, IL 62702.
