

Edwin was born November 4, 1930 in Jacksonville, the son of Gilbert David and Alene Jeanette (Fernandez) Decker. He married Mary Jane Young on June 30, 1956 in Springfield; she preceded him in death.
Edwin was a business school graduate. He served his country in the United States Air Force as an aircraft mechanic during the Korean War. He retired from Fiat Allis after approximately 30 years and later retired from the Illinois Commerce Commission. Edwin was a long-time Municipal Band Member, a longtime Community Band Member, and a former member of the Petersburg Clown Band, playing the clarinet in each. He also volunteered for 20 years as a Red Coat at Memorial Medical Center. Edwin was an active member of the Sons of the American Revolution.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; one brother, David Decker; and one sister, Martha Gantt.
He is survived by his children, Mark Decker of Springfield, Karen (husband, Scott) Kirk of Pleasant Plains, Kathy Decker of Bath, ME, and Brian (wife, Vicky) Decker of Springfield; four grandchildren, Violet (husband, Robert) Rynders and Dylan (wife, Nicole) Kirk, both of Greensboro, NC, and Ethan and Emily Decker, both of Springfield; two great-grandchildren, Amelia and Owen Rynders, both of Greensboro, NC; two sisters, Mary (husband, Bill) Miller and Beverly (husband, Darrell) Wells, both of Springfield; two sisters-in-law, Bonnie Decker of Freeburg and Betsy Young of Brookfield, WI; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation: Family will receive friends from 1:00 until 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 1, 2015 at Boardman-Smith Funeral Home, 800 South Grand Avenue West, Springfield.
Funeral Ceremony: 10:30 a.m. on Monday, February 2, 2015 at Douglas Avenue United Methodist Church, 501 S. Douglas Ave., Springfield with Rev. Julia Melgreen officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
