

Edwin F. Jordan, 90 of Springfield, died at 6:42 a.m. on Wednesday, October 18, 2006 at his residence. He was born on March 27, 1916 in Brooklyn, NY, the son of James E. and Helen G. Callahan Jordan. He married Lula Ann Leone on July 8, 1944 in Riverton. Ed worked at the Rock Island Arsenal before his induction into active service in July of 1943. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII achieving the rank of Sergeant and was awarded among others, the European-African-Middle Eastern Ribbon, and one Bronze Battle Star. He worked for Central Illinois Light Company for twenty-eight years, until his retirement in 1981. Following his retirement, he was a Red Coat Volunteer at Memorial Medical Center for fifteen years. He was a lifelong Democrat, member of the Knights of Columbus Council #364 and a forty-year member of St. Agnes Parish. Ed loved learning about different cultures and traveled extensively after his retirement; making stops on every continent, with the exception of Antarctica and Australia. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister. He is survived by his wife: Lula Ann Jordan of Springfield; two sons: Thomas Jordan of Oakland, CA and Nicholas (wife, Janice Hill) of Sherman and three daughters: Sandra (husband, Michael) Dutton of Evergreen, CO; Patricia Jordan and Maribeth Jordan both of Springfield. Family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 22, 2006 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Funeral Ceremonies will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, October 23, 2006 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, with Rev. Robert J. Jallas celebrant. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery, where military honors will be performed. Memorial contributions may be made to: The Salvation Army, 530 N. 6th St., Springfield, Illinois 62702.
