

He was born in Springfield, October 30, 1936 the son of Clarence and Maye (McHughs) Roberts. His parents, his sister Karen White and his brother, Ron Roberts all preceded him in death.
Ed enlisted in the United States Air Force where he completed training as a Rotary Wing Mechanic. He achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant. Ed earned the National Defense Service Medal, Aircrew Member Badge and a Good Conduct Medal. He was proud of his service. Ed's training in the Air Force allowed his continuation of his love of aviation. He would serve Garrett Aviation based at Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport for 40 years. He was an accomplished aircraft mechanic and pilot.
He was a member of South Side Christian Church for many years. He and his wife Cheryl were active in several aspects of the church and especially serving as Sunday School Teacher's for the preschool children and those with special needs. Ed and Cheryl has a passion for special needs people and would often help them through out the community including housing them from time to time. In retirement, Ed worked as a caretaker of the church facilities, often with assistance from Cheryl.
Ed married Cheryl Peters in Springfield, May 10, 1996 and she survives. Also surviving are his children: Mark (Tanya) Roberts of Springfield, Dawn (Scott) Wilson of Platte City, MO, Kevin Roberts and Robin (Jim) Watts both of Springfield. There are eight grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
Cremation Rites will be accorded by the Bisch Crematory.
The family will greet family and friends at a memorial gathering on Friday, Sept. 1, 2023 at South Side Christian Church 2600 S. MacArthur Springfield, IL beginning at 10:00 am with a memorial service following there at 11:00 am. Pastor Brooks Wilson will officiate. Private inurnment will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery with military honor's provided by the Inter Veterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County.
In lieu of flowers, those who wish may direct memorial contributions to the South Side Christian Church.
