

Elise B. Hines, 80, of Springfield, died at 10:05 a.m., Friday, November 7, 2003 at St. John’s Hospice. Elise was born June 8, 1923 in Keokuk IA the daughter of Junius and Marie Bocke Beger. She married George G. Hines, Sr. in 1946; he preceded her in death in 1995. Mrs. Hines was a graduate from Sacred Heart Academy and St. John’s School of Nursing in 1944 and received a Bachelor of Science degree from St. Francis College, Joliet, IL in 1975. She served in WWII on active duty in the Army Nurses Corps in the Pacific Theatre of War and Japan. She was honorably discharged from the Army in April 1946. She remained active in nursing in Springfield until 1988 when she retired from the State of Illinois, employed then at McFarland Zone Center. She has been an officer and board member of St. John’s Retirees, Patriotic Chairman of Women’s Overseas League, charter member of Women in the Military Service for American Memorial Foundation, Washington, D.C., Sacred Heart Griffin Alumni and St. Agnes Church Altar and Rosary Society. She was a member of Bishop McNicholas Catholic War Veterans Post 1916 for six years, having received from Catholic War Veterans the Distinguished Service Reward. Since retirement, she has enjoyed volunteering in pastoral care at Memorial Medical Center and projects at St. John’s with Third Age and St. John’s College. She has served at St. Agnes Church in various capacities. She was also preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by three children; Son: George G. Hines, Jr. of Knoxville, TN; twins: Elizabeth M. Fulton of Springfield and Robert B. (wife, Kathy) Hines of Florence, SC; one sister: Jacquie (husband, James) Cadagin of Pekin; one brother: Richard J. (wife, Delores) Beger of Springfield; eight grandchildren: Sarah (husband, Jason) of St. Louis, Theresa of San Diego, CA, Krista of Charleston, SC, Jason of Hollywood, CA, Jared of Flornece, SC, Eric of Florence, SC, George (wife, Katherine) of Rockville, MD and Kimberly (husband, Brian) of Springfield; three great grandchildren: Maximilian of St. Louis, Noah and Matthew of Springfield; three aunts: Hildegard Ristenpart of Quincy, Sr. Mary Annette OP of Springfield, Sr. Mary Elise, OP of Chicago, one uncle: Alphonse Bocke of Quincy, four nieces, one nephew and many cousins. Friends may call at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home from 5-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 11, 2003. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 5:00 p.m. and Bishop McNicholas Catholic War Veterans Post 1916 will conduct services following prayers. Concelebrated Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 12, 2003 at St. Agnes Catholic Church with Rev. Msgr. Patrick J. Wright, V.F. principal celebrant, and Rev. Msgr. Kenneth C. Steffen concelebrant. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County will conduct military honors.
