Francis "Frank" Stead

Francis “Frank” Stead, 90, of Springfield died at 9:50 p.m. Monday, January 31, 2005 at St. John’s Hospital Hospice. Frank was born April 14, 1914 in Chicago, the son of Edwin O. and Margaret I. McCann Stead. He married Dorothy Mlaker in 1944; she preceded him in death on February 4, 2004. Frank served as the Executive Director of the Springfield Election Commission for fifteen years. He also had been employed as a clothing salesman for Roberts Brothers, Myers Brothers and Arch Wilson clothing stores. He was a WWII and Korea U.S. Navy Veteran receiving the Asiatic-Pacific and Good Conduct medals. Frank was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church and Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. He was a member of AFSCME, Navy Club Ship 32, Life member of Knights of Columbus Council 364, St. John’s Samaritan’s where he served on the board of directors and was past president. He also served on the board of directors of AARP and served as a Democratic Precinct Committeeman. He was also preceded in death by his parents; three brothers and six sisters. He is survived by one son: Michael (wife, Deanne) Stead of Springfield; three daughters: Barbara (husband, Ronald) Maley of Auburn, Janet K. (husband, William) Regner of Tempe, AZ, Mary Lynn (husband, Brian) Fairchild of Rochester; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 5, 2005 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield. Concelebrated Funeral Mass will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 5, 2005 at Christ The King Catholic Church, 1930 Barberry Dr. Springfield, with Rev. Msgr. David Lantz, principal celebrant. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, February 7, 2005 at Camp Butler National Cemetery where the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County will conduct military honors.
