Frank Hartl

Sam was born August 30, 1950 in Menominee, MI, the son of Sylvester F. and Dorothy M. Hartl. He married his high school sweetheart, Susan M. Scheidt on August 25, 1973 at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Milwaukee, WI.

Sam graduated from John Marshall Junior-Senior High School and earned his bachelors degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. He was employed as a civil engineer for IDOT- Bureau of Railroads for thirty-four years until his retirement in 2008. He was a member of St. Agnes Church, where he sang in the choir, served as eucharistic minister, was active in RCIA, and was head of the Parish Council. Sam bowled on the St. Agnes Bowling league, was involved with Habitat for Humanity and coached his sons little league baseball teams. He was an avid Green Bay Packers and Milwaukee Brewers fan, a true Cheesehead! He enjoyed watching classic comedy films and auto racing, woodworking, photography, golf, trains, and reading historical and biographical books.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Susan Hartl of Springfield; sons, Dan (wife, Jennifer) Hartl of Springfield and Brian (wife, April) Hartl of Tinley Park, IL; four grandchildren, Ben, Sam, Miles, and Elijah Hartl; brother, Paul (wife, Shirley) Hartl of Monroe, GA; in-laws, Robert and Marie Scheidt of Milwaukee, WI; brother-in-law, Jim Scheidt of Grand Junction, CO; niece; nephew; and several cousins.

Cremation was accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies.

Memorial Gathering: Family will receive friends from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 20, 2017 at St. Agnes Church, 245 N. Amos Ave., Springfield. The memorial gathering will begin with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m.

Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 21, 2017 at St. Agnes Church with Rev. Robert Jallas, celebrant. Inurnment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
